Gold N Scoop

Last month I wrote about how times have changed.  This month, Oconee had its first DirtFest event of the season and I felt like I stepped back in time.  People digging Old School, scrubbing rocks and working as a team and helping one another. It was just like the old days and one that I know "Buzzard" would have been proud of!

There was night hunt detecting, seeded hunts and event a Wild Hunt that uncovered an 1880 Silver Dollar and a small musket ball!  

Donny Cummings taght a 4 hour Metal Detecting Training Class to a group of 4 while I spoke about the history of the Oconee Gold from the 1800 - 1900's period to a class of about 12 people.  The stories of gold got people excited and it was like a gold rush here at the camp!

Later in the week, we had an amazing give-away of over $1,200 in prizes.  Thanks to Prospectors Dream who provided us with their 6 x 42 Power Sluice Mini, the Boss Clean Up Sluice and the Gold Clean Up Buddy!  Thank You Guys!

There was also the famous Gold N BBQ event, games and activities for all.  Movie nights, BINGO, LRC, Tower Jenga competitions and a Carnival Day!  BUT...my favorite was everybody lining up for the ice cream sundaes and milk shakes at the end of the day!
